Getting Married at Whitley Hall

Whitley Hall has three charming rooms licenced for civil ceremonies and civil partnerships, we are happy to take care of this side of your day too. There is a charge for use of the room in which the ceremony takes place.

Our charges for this facility are:
Sunday to Friday £280.00
Saturdays and Bank Holidays £450.00

A complimentary flower arrangement will be provided for your ceremony.

It is necessary, however for couples wishing to be married on approved premises to follow certain guidelines:

As soon as you have made provisional arrangements for your marriage at Whitley Hall,
you should contact the Superintendent Registrar at the Register Office, The Town Hall, Pinstone Street, Sheffield, S1 2HH (Telephone 0114-203-9423)

Without the presence of both a Superintendent Registrar and a Registrar there can be no marriage and any arrangements for use of our premises depend entirely on their availability. It is, therefore, essential to make an advance booking with the Superintendent registrar at the Sheffield register office for his attendance at your proposed marriage as soon as a booking can be accepted. A fee for his attendance will be payable before the ceremony.

You will also each have to give notice of marriage to the Superintendent Registrar(s) of the district(s) in which you live. This notice must be given in person and valid for only twelve months. You should, therefore, telephone the relevant Registry Office(s) where you live to arrange an appointment as soon as possible after notice can be given. Any arrangements made for a marriage to take place at Whitley Hall are dependent upon:

  1. the attendance of the Superintendent Registrar and a Registrar for the district in which the premises are situated; and
  2. the issue of the authority or authorities for marriage by the Superintendent Registrar(s) to whom notice of marriage was given.

When notice is given in a different registration district from the one where the marriage is taking place you will have to collect authority before the ceremony and ensure that it is delivered to the Superintendent Registrar in Sheffield who is to attend the ceremony.

Remember that only a Civil, Non-religious Ceremony can be permitted by the Superintendent Registrar. Any music, readings, words or performance which forms any part of the ceremony must be secular. The content of the ceremony must be agreed in advance with Superintendent Registrar who will be attending the ceremony.

Payment for any ownership of copyright for music, readings etc, permitted at the ceremony is a matter for yourselves. The hotel does not provide music for use during your ceremony.

In accordance with the general law governing marriages, a Marriage ceremony may only take place between the hours of 8.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Sunday inclusive. This is a strict rule of law.
